TikTok Photo Mode: how to save each image instead of a screenshot
Photo posts are a slideshow of full-size images. Here is how to get each slide as a file, how shortlinks are resolved, and why the music is not a separate download.
A TikTok photo post looks like a video in the feed, but it is a set of still images played in sequence, usually with a music track behind them. Taking a screenshot gives you a compressed copy of whatever was visible at that moment — including the interface. Fetching the post’s own images gives you the files TikTok actually publishes.
Photo post, video, or shortlink: what you are pasting
TikTok uses different paths for different post types, and SaveNova treats each one explicitly rather than guessing:
| Link shape | What it is | What SaveNova returns |
|---|---|---|
| tiktok.com/@user/video/123… | A standard video post | The MP4 streams the post publishes, with honest quality labels |
| tiktok.com/@user/photo/123… | A photo post (multiple images) | Each image listed as Image #1, Image #2, and so on |
| vm.tiktok.com/… and vt.tiktok.com/… | Mobile share shortlinks | Resolved to the public permalink before retrieval |
| tiktok.com/t/… | In-app share links | Resolved the same way, or rejected if the target is not a post |
A profile URL, a hashtag page, or the For You feed has no single post behind it, so there is nothing to retrieve. If the paste looks like one of those, SaveNova says so before it makes an extraction request.
Why a link beats a screenshot
- No interface in the picture. Screenshots include the caption, the like rail, and the progress bar of the slideshow.
- The published resolution. Screenshots are capped by your screen; the images TikTok publishes are not.
- No re-compression. Screenshotting a screenshot compounds artefacts, which matters most for text-heavy slides.
- Predictable order. Numbered slides are easy to keep in sequence; camera-roll screenshots are not.
Saving the slides on Android
Copy the post link
Tap the Share arrow on the photo post and choose Copy link. If you are on tiktok.com in Chrome, use the browser’s share or copy-address option instead.
Paste it into SaveNova
A vm.tiktok.com or tiktok.com/t/ link is resolved to the full permalink automatically. The tracking tags TikTok adds to shared links are removed before processing.
Save the images you want
Each image has its own download button. Files arrive through Chrome’s download manager and normally appear in your Downloads folder; whether a gallery app lists them depends on your device.
Saving the slides on iPhone and iPad
Copy the link from the app or Safari
In the app, use Share → Copy link. If you are watching in Safari, copy the address bar so the permalink is complete.
Retrieve and check the slide count
The heading above the image grid tells you how many images the post exposes. If that number is lower than the post on TikTok, the remaining slides were not published as retrievable images.
Save to Files, then to Photos if you want
iOS saves downloads to the Files app (Downloads). To keep an image in Photos, open it from Files and use Share → Save Image.
What SaveNova cannot take out of a photo post
- The soundtrack is not a separate download. MP3 conversion is offered beside video entries. A photo post is images, so there is no video file to convert.
- No stitched slideshow video. SaveNova does not render the images plus music into a new video; that would be a different product with different rights implications.
- No “Without Watermark” image. Photo posts generally do not carry the moving watermark, so an additional clean-image button would be a duplicate pointing at the same file. Labels describe what exists, not what sounds better.
- No private, draft, or friends-only posts. If TikTok requires an account to view it, an anonymous retrieval cannot reach it.
Photo-mode problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The shortlink is rejected | The shortlink expired, or it points to a profile rather than a post | Open the post in the app and copy a fresh link from the post itself |
| Fewer images than the post shows | Some slides were published in a format the post does not expose as separate files | Save the slides that are listed; the rest are not retrievable without altering the post |
| An image downloads but will not open in the gallery | The file is in Downloads, which some Android gallery apps do not index | Open it from your file manager, or move it into the Pictures folder |
| “Content unavailable” | The post was deleted, made private, or is region-restricted | Nothing on the page can recover it; try again only if the creator reposts |
